since its possible to switch bodies with someone while in the astral, would it be possible to astrally travel to an alternate reality and switch bodies with "yourself" there?

I for one have no answer with any form of fact behind it....but I'll throw out an idea... If when traveling upon the Astral, there is a silver thread that connects you to your body...and losing this connection would mean death....or near permanent loss in the astral realm with great difficulty of getting back to your body....I would think...no?
I would think that the ability to "posess yourself" but "yourself" being a "you" of a different dimension, would be roughly like you posessing the body of another random person, in this dimension...but this is because I look at "me" as "me" and a "me in another dimension" would not be "me." It would be someone "other than me," IE thus roughly equal to a random person, being that there could be a theorhetical infinite number of "me"s out there...
BUT, if it WAS possible, I would think that both individuals, "you" and "Alternate you" would have to be on the Astral Plane simultaneously...AND be able to locate one another's Physical bodies...and thus take over....but something tells me that the whole situation would be strangely painful and incredibly complex, probably not something that could be maintained...unless upon merging with "alternate physical self" the thread to "normal physical self" is severed...but i don't think that would happen...
...but I'm far from an expert on the subject...so far I can hardly call myself a beginner...but since no one commented on the thread and it was opened to "anybody" there's my rambling idea....
