I still do have a question though. My family (or my grandmother at the very least) believed up until my mid-young-childhood (and possibly still do, I haven't asked) that fairies are real and if you put gifts in front of the door the fairies would give you something nice or (usually) bless you but if you didn't, the fairies would play mischievous pranks on you. I always put coins and food in front of the fairy Doors so that I would not get pranked.
I've wondered how common this belief actually is where I'm from (South US.)
