Fairies and Fairy Doors

Now, I understand that fairy Doors are becoming increasingly common.

I still do have a question though. My family (or my grandmother at the very least) believed up until my mid-young-childhood (and possibly still do, I haven't asked) that fairies are real and if you put gifts in front of the door the fairies would give you something nice or (usually) bless you but if you didn't, the fairies would play mischievous pranks on you. I always put coins and food in front of the fairy Doors so that I would not get pranked.

I've wondered how common this belief actually is where I'm from (South US.)

Please respond! This is a question I've had for years.

The term Fairy is used in various contexts including:

- little people often living below ground - miniature shoes and tools have been found
- nature spirits that manage the functionality of plants, chakras, planets etc.

Portals appear in various accounts including use by ETs. The Earth is close to portals used for inter-galactic trade

Fairy lore is everywhere...they can be interesting intelligences to work with.....offerings of many kind are common throughout the world. I know Fae Lore is quite old in Europe and was something carried over to the US. Appalachian fae lore has a few books.

The way Grandma described them was like little magical mischievous people. Where the fairy doors led was... kinda complicated. Throughout various points in my childhood it was either described as if the fairies were literally living inside the walls or that the fairy Doors led to some place called Fairy Land (magical fairy country.)
