Okay I have a question, which I do plan on eventually finding out for myself, but in the mean time would like to ask here. I know that when one projects they are able to further investigate symbols to obtain hidden meanings from them (which is mainly why I want to learn) but can one investigate something like say a book, religious text, or maybe a concept in the astral to gain insight into it?

You can do this if you head up into the Akashic records, essentially a library of everything that has ever happened and everything that could possibly happen in the future. It's really confusing though, but the past events are much easier to decode than the future ones. Trying to examine something that's already happened is pretty straightforward, and sometimes you can get a little extra help from the powers that be if you're wanting something specific. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but there are librarians of sorts up there. It can be really confusing unless one of them comes down to help you out. When they do show up though, they're very efficient at their job.

So, you're up in the records, and wanting to know information about the Bible as an example. You ring up the librarian, communicate your wishes to him, and he dutifully cleans out all the extraneous crap you're experiencing and brings to to the Bible (there is a ton of extraneous crap bombarding you at all times). So you say "Hey librarian, what's up with the Book of Revelations?" Bam, you're there. In my experience, they can point you in the exact right direction, but they can't make up your mind for you. You'll see the history of the Book of Revelations, but the librarian doesn't come right out and give opinions or statements. Maybe some are more chatty than others, but I've only seen them point out the sights, help me get my bearings, then go about their business.

Okay that si what I wanted to know. Actually I am wanting to find the context of the symbolism of a certain Taoist alchemical text, it seems all I can find is varying interpretations of it. I thought perhaps I could investigate the symbols, the text, and the symbols in context to the text via the astral and derive the useful meaning of the text from that. Is this maybe too big of an assumption on my part?

I don't see that being any real problem. It'll just take some time to decode everything you're seeing. The Akashic records are pretty accessible, and with a librarian's help it should be pretty easy to bring up everything you're looking for. After that, it's about figuring out what the hell you just saw.

My experience is that in the astral, concepts assume personalities and distinct identities...if you are interested in gleaning mre from a text or symbol, will yourself to it and engage it in friendly conversation. The dialogue will most likely require meditation and intepretation later but I have had some very successful interactions using this method.

Usually my quests start the other way around. I'm given a symbol in the astral after some teaching or event, usually the meaning is given or I at least have an idea based on the context it was used in. The sigil/symbol is passed through me, and I can feel it like a key unlocking an aspect of myself.

You might have some luck at reversing this process... visualize the symbol as clearly and detailed as possible. See it hanging within a dark void. Consider any basics you might know to be true about the symbol (It's tibetan and old, as an example). Pass yourself through the symbol, or vice versa. Feel it as if it was electricly charged, like it's part of your own soul personified by the shape you see.

It's a rather simple but profound way of passing and gathering information. I stumbled across this myself a year ago, and found it can pack a real punch.
