Ascension, Mystery Schools, Fraternities

Hi all, as you may or may not be aware, I'm pretty deep into the occult and I've been recently delving into some stuff that talks about an "ascesnion process", the "7 rays of initiation" and bla bla bla.. well, some of this matieral even states that you have to be ready and be dedicated to yourself and develop yourself so that you can be ready to undertake this process.

I have alot of thougts and questions about this area.. so what I'm getting here is that each religion is respectable and intellectual knowledge is okay, but the only true kind of knowledge can only be experienced by developing and staying true to yourself which is why you should quit looking outside of yourself for knowledge of God/Source/Higher Mind or whatecver you wanna call it..

So are alot of mystery schools and fraternities there for you to just partake in knowledge that they hand down amongst themselves so you can find out more about yourself, which therefore in turn makes you find out more about God?

I want to clear any misunderstandings about this area that I might have without realizing it, It's just ascension "calls" for me and I feel attracted to it.. I want to develop myself and accept my spiritual gifts as my higher self but this kind of path can have ALOT of confusion and misunderstandings at times ._.

So far Thelema, Rosicrucianism, or the Golden Dawn stand out for me.. I just need to find out which one would be more "beneficial" for the path I'm trying to partake on.

and what kind of exercises do you think that you practice would help me to develop my soul self and help me on the path of ascension/initiation? Expanding awareness/consciousness? Meditation seems like an obvious one for me, and I try to fit it into my life daily :p but I'm sure there's other ways out there that people use to cultivate and bring out that "I AM" presence..

Most organizations are money schemes or just some fancy gaybars for rich people.
You should join an organization if you feel like it should benefit you to belong to an organization.

All of the techniques for a higher mind is already inside you.

In my opinion most societies/fraternities are simply catalysts for self-initiation.

The path you take is unique unto you, however its a stepped process which individuals can verify against the mysteries.

This path has many parallels and once you see it, you'll see it everywhere. Its the major arcana of the tarot, the 12 zodiac signs as they move across the sky, the 7 steps of alchemy, chakras, kaballah, ect.

Once you understand the path and realize where you are on that path then self-initiation is much easier and there is no need to join any organization thats asking for your money.

Also remember, the Path itself happens from start to finish in every slice of time you choose, from the smallest moment to infinity. You could see the path laid out before you for your entire life, or just today, or maybe a few years. Its the perspective you choose and how you want to interact with it.

Franz Bardon's Initiation Into Hermetics is a good place to start. He tears down most of the initiatic blinds and mystic poetry that is traditional and which others, even Crowley, generally stick to.

Magari is mostly right about self-initation, except that there is a point where person to person (or spirit-to-person, if you're hardcore solo training) initiations are necessary. But those are earned, are not necessary in the beginning, and most of the work that you have to do is yours to do. So whether you do the Gd rituals or the IIH exercises, just do the work and the universe will take care of the rest as you are ready.

Tris3021, have you looked into the Brotherhood of Saturn?

that's nice to read. i'm doing bardon's exercises, and actually i am in complete trust that a(nother) teacher will appear when i need one, and that i will recognize him/her. or it - who knows, it might be an appletree : )

about bardon's tearing down blinds: how can you tell he's doing that?

I would read Peter Levenda's "Stairway to Heaven". Fantastic historical work on ascention and mystery schools as well as a thesis on the origin of the entire concept. That should help a lot and it is easy to get.
