Re: What Are You Doing?
Just got delivered my new GPU yesterday, to feed my AI hobby, Nvidia silicon this time, I used to be AMD fan.
But I'm Linux-only-machines sort of person, so it's a bit less "out of the the box" experience and more of "re-compile kernel" type of experience.
Well not literally, but it took some fiddling to get most of the things working. It runs fine now, mostly.

Assembling computers, networking, hardware, and software programming used to be a hobby a couple decades ago; lately though I just follow the past of least resistance and go to Best Buy and make use of their credit card when I need a new tower - been using the same 22" Gateway monitor since the early 2000s.
Basically starting my day at noon here; that's 5:00 PM UK time if I remember right.

I go for a thrilling ride once the mundane stuff is out of the way; I get back and start inquiring about Chess because my friend is a fun and easy game. I begin teasing her and calling her "Anna Cramling" because they are both Annas, although one is a master and one is not. I say I would beat you both!! She says no, and no Chess tonight, so I go downstairs and logon here - somewhat a ritual of sorts in its entirety.

Re: What Are You Doing?
Once in a blue moon I hang around the house all day and do whatever; this has been one of those days. I should be all caught up on stuff a bit earlier tomorrow, so I can hit the road a little sooner, but it doesn't always necessarily work out that way.
Next trip will be east about twenty miles or so with a SE deviation of about the same distance. The deviation is just so I don't go back the same way I came. Rain or shine, it doesn't matter.
A while back I wanted to do a live feed on the dashcam but apparently it doesn't have that functionality without jumping through quite a few hoops first, and even then I'm not so sure. Facebook Live via the Android was much easier and faster so I went with that. I suppose I do it in case I come across anything interesting(and I have), but lately going live is more of a habit than anything else; like starting the dashcam. I delete almost all of the videos as I'm just in it for 'the moment'.
Just killing time while waiting for the culinary artist upstairs to finish.

Jut after work, eating my £1 supermarket pizza (because I'm a cheapskate, especially about food), just out of of the oven. And thinking that I probably should turn my PC in to dual boot, Windows and Linux. That should solve all my driver issues.
It's been over a decade at least, since the last time I installed Windows, I wonder if things changed a lot on that Bill's camp.

Re: What Are You Doing?
I have to periodically spend time optimizing Windows 10. It takes about forty seconds to boot.

Re: What Are You Doing?
That is really long time, actually. All my Linux machines boots in about four.

Re: What Are You Doing?
Typical boot time for Windows is usually around a minute. I think the fastest I've ever got it down to was around twenty seconds. The last time I optimized I quit at around forty seconds.

Trying coffee again after a several year hiatus. Got the old grinder out; the last time I used it was for the dried Amanita Muscarias I harvested(fuckin' nasty). Apparently the coffee beans expired in 2018, but it's not bad and I don't really notice any difference.

Test Boot
44 Seconds. I haven't optimized for quite a few months, and I have a 2TB external USB drive plugged in which could possibly make it take a few seconds longer. It is a bit long; 30 would be ideal and I wouldn't really expect anything less than that from Windows 10.

I was planning to use my day off work for something a bit more productive today, but ended up "wasting" on coding for my self MP3 streaming bot for Discord. For no particularly good reason either, just because..
40-30 seconds boot time not terrible, I'm sure in the olden days we had to be much more patient with it.

Re: What Are You Doing?
I'm thinking that boot times have actually degraded in performance. The more time that goes by the more new fangled shit they keep adding on - a Windows 10 system out of the box can be quite a lethargic experience. You can even maybe knock a few seconds off by optimizing the BIOS - I know I did. Uninstalling unneeded apps and eliminating noncritical processes(background or otherwise).
And I'm still using CCleaner to eliminate a lot of other junk.

Re: What Are You Doing?
It's morning here. I'm on the couch. My dog is here, snuggled to my right. She's so sweet, I don't even deserve it. Every morning I check in on a couple of forums. It's my son's birthday today, so we'll be celebrating a little. He and his friends are piled up in the basement after a sleep-over event last night.
I'm not a planner. I don't organize my daily schedule. I don't know what I'll get into each day, but it's always busy and exciting. I expect today will be no differrent.

Paying off a speeding ticket. 84 in a 55(I think) while passing a car - $278.00. It was a main route and I should've known better, but what can I say, sometimes the 'fun factor' gets the better of me.
My second speeding ticket. The first one was around 2004, so this makes me a VERY lucky individual.

Re: What Are You Doing?
Daily writing and revising exercises as usual while I have my morning tweaker(energy shot); now for a round of supplements. Einstein said that God doesn't roll dice with the universe, but I roll them for supplements, and a few other things.
Lately I have twelve meticulously ordered supplements on the dresser in two rows from tallest to shortest. I roll dice to decide which four to take. First roll decides whether I roll one or two dice. If it's one die then I start at that number and take every other one; if it's two dice then I take the first four from that number. Doubles counts as one. This way a wider range of combinations is possible and the first and last are less likely to be neglected.

Who Wants to Pay One Hundred and Fifty Bucks for a New Tire?
Not me. I'm going to a salvage yard today and see if I can find a match. A friend recently acquired four tires this way and had them mounted and balanced for under $200.00. I only need one since my next mechanical endeavor is going to be a practice run of mounting the tire myself; I've already been balancing them myself for some time now.
I actually need two for the back, but I'm just going to start with the rear right since that one's the worst. I ran the tires on the front right down to the metal threads and one actually blew out while I was out and about.
Sticker is also two months overdue, so I need them for that too. (Second rhyme. I must confess, I'm just a natural I guess.(third))

Re: What Are You Doing?
Hang out and write something while waiting to pick up a friend from work - they got a really nice Christmas bonus. I'm burning some herbal/resin/chakra incense that they gave me. I got two or three different kinds mixed together. I'm using a really small pillar and it's been tunnelling out lately after a couple minutes or so; burns about long enough to get a slight aroma goin'. I'll probably continue playing with it until it refuses to light.
