what are some simple things i could learn that would help work me up to the larger spells? i have no friends who could help, and i family is veeeeerrrryyyy christian so i have no idea how to start. iv been trying astral projection a bit and almost gotten close but other than that i dont know how to start.

Start by reading. Do lots of reading. If your interested in working magick, a great place to start is "The Inner Temple of Witchcraft" by Christopher Penczak. That's where I started. The seguel "Outer Temple" is also really great. Good Luck

I would also recommend meditation (it will really help with astral travel if you are not doing it yet). I would look into casting a circle (we have a few topics here about it) because you don't always need to make a grand show of it.
But research is important. It will give you an idea of what exactly it is you want to accomplish and how you wish to accomplish it.
And the giving power to your words is an excellant idea.
